Changing the Oil

When I got my industrial machine, it was in desperate need of some love and attention.

It spent some time sitting on someone's veranda. It then lived at my parent's house for a number of years. I was a little concerned about the oil and talked to a couple of people about changing the oil. The common response was to just top it up, and yes, it was low, but it was also very, very dirty. It had leaves, broken needles, buttons and pins in there and once I started cleaning it out, I also discovered dead earwigs and beetles. Eww! So change the oil it was!

I managed to get myself some oil from Marks Mega Store on EBay, and when it arrived on Friday morning I got started.

First, I drained the oil, and then I gave it a good wipe out with a rag. I then filled it back up to just under the high level mark with nice clean oil. It took about 6-700mls of the 1L bottle that I bought.

Now it is all clean, I feel more comfortable using the machine!

  1. Do you want to come around and change the oil on my machine? It's full of pins and fluff....

  3. Hi, I recently acquired one of these machines myself and have no instruction manual or anything and no idea how to use it. Hoping you might be able to point me in the right direction to read more about how to use or look after it? Going to have to change the oil on mine too for similar reasons! yuk! :)

  4. I don't suppose you might be able to point me in the right direction to learn more about these machines? I recently acquired one in a similar state and am a little scared to use it in case I break it, but don't want to let it sit too long unused either!! Going to start by cleaning out the oil well. ugh.

    2. I got an old Singer industrial machine and was able to find a manual to print off by Googling a bit. This post and the reply is quite old now, and I'm sure you've figured out things, but I thought I'd reply just in case!
