Paper Foundation Piecing

DSCF1016

This is my first attempt at paper foundation piecing. Paper foundation piecing is where you stitch your fabric to a paper foundation. The pattern was from Compuquilt, and I found some great tutorials on-line to help me along, including this video from Connecting Threads:

Now whilst that little tool that Karen uses looks lovely, I didn't rush out and get one. Which is fine, you really don't need it. In fact, I reckon whilst it would probably make things quicker, it would also mean that I would think about what I was doing a little less, and perhaps I might have cut off more than four "pieces" along with their seam allowances. Yep. I did that. I didn't take any pictures, but that is a little mis-hap that you want to avoid.

The centre of the star is a bit bulky, with all those seams converging in there. I'm not sure what can be done about that? Perhaps that is why I see so many with buttons and yoyos over the middle?

  2. Yours looks lovely! You are right, that is a crazy number of seams to have meeting in the centre.

    2. See... rough nights sleep - right now... not write! I'm going to stop reading my own comments now after I push publish or I might very well be here all day.
