I've figured out that the six pairs of undies that I got from Pumpkin Patch are just not going to be enough, so I thought I would have a go at making them myself.
The fabric is a stretchy terry towelling that Mum gave me to make grow suits from. The pattern is from Ottobre 2004/4 (Winter).
The airplane on the front was on the disk that I got with my embroidery machine. I swapped the blue for green and the black for blue. I used cut-away on the back and used some solvy on the top to stop the loops from popping out through my image.
The undies have a layer of interlock in the gusset, and I added a layer of interlock to the inside of the front panel so that the back of the embroidery design wouldn't be too scratchy.
They aren't perfect, but I do believe they are kinda cute.
Now all I have to do is wait for him to wake up so we can try them on....
Oh they're so cute! What a fab idea. Kids undies are so expensive these days, so that's a wonderful alternative.
ReplyDeleteThese are too cool Carmel. Impressive sewing. While I will respect your boy's privacy, can you at least tellus how the fitting went?
ReplyDeleteThey fit nicely - although he didn't wear them for very long...
ReplyDeleteLiam was very pleased with the plane on the front.
Adorable! I can see my little man toilet training with a pair of these too.
ReplyDeleteThese are really sweet Carmel - I'm sure you will be making many more pair as he will always be asking for the 'plane undies'.
ReplyDeleteGREAT idea, and very well executed too! Now for the difficult bit... the actual toilet training. Ugh. I have all that ahead of me. All attempts thus far have been failures. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the training... at least the pants look fab.
ReplyDeleteThey're great ! I love them .
ReplyDeleteVery cute undies, but even better your beautiful boys, they are just adorable!!
ReplyDeleteI saved some of my sons when he was little along with many other clothes. I just thought his undies were so cute and tiny with their little cars on them. Enjoy your boys, they will be grown before you know it!!
cute undies you clever thing! I never thought of making them for keira! I love my ottobre too! always refer to them when I'm stuck for something to make!
