A Belated Birthday Blog

Maxx turned the Big-Four-Oh last month. We had a bit of a bash to celebrate with a few of our friends, and I was up until some ungodly hour the night before making this:

Under all the icing there was Black Forest Cake. Yummo!

And I don't think I did too bad a job of decorating the cake either...

Yet Another Giveaway!

Little Munchkins is having a giveaway.
She is giving away Oliver + S patterns, so very exciting!
Don't tell anyone, because then they will enter, and I will have less chance of winning.

Liam's Hat!

This morning it was sunny, so Liam put on his gumboots and his hat and was waiting at the door ready to go.

He was looking so gorgeous, I had to take some pictures, so here he is.

This hat is made from the Nicole Mallalieu Kids Hat Pattern.

Please excuse the bucket in the background (we do washing here too).

Bag Swap Sneak Peak #1 - Wrapped up with a Bow

My Essential Baby sewing buddies are having a bag swap. I ordered a pattern and some supplies from Nicole Mallalieu. Some of these items are going to be used for the bag swap. I'm not telling which ones. All will be revealed when the time comes....

I thought I would take the opportunity to show everyone what a marvelous job they do with their packaging.

Have you ever received something in the mail that has been squashed or bent? Sadly, I have heard of people ordering interfacing in the mail that was useless, because of the way it was packed.

At the top of the picture, you will see a tube, rolled up and tied with a bow. On the outside -template plastic. Inside that - fusible wadding. Inside that, vilene S520. And just to be sure, its all stuffed inside with tissue paper to stop it from being flattened by the postie. And its all tied up with a pretty pink bow!

I've Been a Bit Slack...

...updating my blog lately. I have been sewing, and I have been doing other things too. I just uploaded my camera to the computer, I did it because it was FULL. There were three different birthday cakes in there, and I made one of them, so I haven't been sitting around.

Anyway - the item I was photographing when my camera said "enough's enough" is this little romper that I have made as a present for someone who had a little baby boy (in December - I really have been slack!). She is going to be so surprised!

It's the "Turtle" baby romper from Ottobre 3/2008. I used the Robot fabric from Spotlight. I also used the red size 14 snaps that I got from Snap Source (last year? - I hope not the year before..) I actually finished this a week or so ago (even though I started it last year), I put the snaps on today, so the garment was finally finished. Sadly, snap setting using the Snap Source tool and a hammer makes my baby cry. :'(

The edges are finished using Ottobre's technique of binding. I cut a length of red fabric (a lycra blend) and sewed to the edge with right sides facing. The binding was 4/5 the length of the actual edge, so a little stretched. I then folded it back over and to the under-side. I pinned, and then I stitched it down using a twin needle. I then cut away the excess fabric from the back using my little snips as I don't have a pair of duck-bill scissors yet.

I have heaps of blog-catchup to do, so I will be back in soon.
